President's Message for January 2019

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on January 2, 2019 at 1:05 AM

Happy 2019! There will be a lot of great changes this year in the Sooner Model A Club, and I’ve set several goals for the Club that you can help me achieve.

First up, don’t forget that our regular meeting time has been changed to the second Sunday of every month at 2:30 p.m. at Will Rogers Garden Center. The first meeting of the year is Tuesday, January 13 at 2:30 p.m.

We hope this move will encourage more members to bring their Model A to the meetings (with short dri...

President's Message for November 2018

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on November 1, 2018 at 6:00 AM

Model A Friends,

The fall tour began in the rain this year. I was able to road test my rebuilt vacuum wiper on the way to Pauls Valley. Vicky couldn’t stop laughing at the antics of the little wiper blade as it wiped at incredible speed, then slowed, then stopped and then wiped at incredible speed. I looked anxiously at the headliner in the fordor for leaks, but it stayed dry. It appears that my resealing efforts worked, at least for the time being. The worst thing about drivi...

President's Message for October 2018

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on September 30, 2018 at 11:55 AM

Model A Friends,

September turned out to be an enjoyable month for us Model A own-ers. The temperature moderated so that our drives were comfortable and we had fun things to drive to. Our first drive was from our home north of Edmond to Mustang for the annual Western Days Parade. We found the line-up point when we spotted Will Langford’s red coupe. Jon and Ruth Adams were also there in a Fordor. We were soon joined by Don and Marilyn Mitchell and Phil Wolfenbarger and Kaye Sage. C...

President's Message for September 2018

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on September 1, 2018 at 3:25 AM

Model A Friends,

August 15 Vicky and I drove to the Round Barn in Arcadia. The clouds were dark and it appeared that a deluge of rain could start anytime. Since the weather was threatening there were only four cars from our club and two cars from the Okie Club. The crowd was not large, but there were many folks interested in our cars. I spoke at length to several people who wished they had a Model A. The main event at the barn was a group of musicians playing old-time music. The a...

President's Message for August 2018

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on August 1, 2018 at 6:05 AM

Model A Friends,

We really had some hot weather in mid July with temperatures up to 114, but the temperatures have moderated at the end of July. This means that good Model A driving is at hand. Vicky and I have been keeping our cars busy the last few days.

We had a good turnout for our annual Ice Cream Social. If you were not there you missed some delicious ice cream, cake and other goodies. Don’t forget that we will have our annual watermelon feast during our general mee...

President's Message for July 2018

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on July 3, 2018 at 6:35 AM

Model A Friends,

You can tell it’s July by the 90-100 degree temperatures. But you can still get old Betsy out for a fun drive even if you don’t have air conditioning in your car. Vicky and I drive early in the morning or late in the evening. The temperature is still high in the evening, but without direct sunlight it doesn’t seem so hot. So roll the windows down and open the windshield, take along something cold to drink and go driving.

July is our most impo...

President's Message for June 2018

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on June 1, 2018 at 4:20 AM

Model A Friends,

The club is entered in the Liberty Fest Parade, July 4, in Edmond. This is a great parade with lots of flags and bunting. If you are planning to drive your car in the parade be sure to buy flags, bunting, and tinsel to decorate your car. Our club will be judged and may win a monetary prize and/or a plaque. Don’t wait until the end of June to purchase your decorations or you will find the stores are empty.

If you don’t want to drive all the way to E...

President's Message for May 2018

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on May 1, 2018 at 5:10 AM

Model A Friends,

Spring has finally arrived with up and down temperatures and Oklahoma wind. However, it is a great time to get your “A” out of the barn and take it for a drive. It is not too cold and not too hot. The wind will just enhance your skill at keeping the old girl between the fence posts.

The spring tour, hosted by the Tulsa Club, was great fun. Eight Model A’s from our club made the drive to Elk City. We also had two couples in modern cars in at...

President's Message for March 2018

Posted by Chuck & Karen Dusenbery on March 1, 2018 at 5:45 AM

Model A Friends,

We have certainly had our fair share of winter weather recently. It was so bad that we postponed our February 20 meeting until February 27. Will Langford worked very hard to get the news out to everyone. He sent out an email and he sent a robo-call to the membership. The robo-call is something new and before he could send it he spent several hours entering phone numbers into the data base required for the robo-call. Our apologies if you didn’t get the word, b...
