Happy 2019! There will be a lot of great changes this year in the Sooner Model A Club, and I’ve set several goals for the Club that you can help me achieve.
First up, don’t forget that our regular meeting time has been changed to the second Sunday of every month at 2:30 p.m. at Will Rogers Garden Center. The first meeting of the year is Tuesday, January 13 at 2:30 p.m.
We hope this move will encourage more members to bring their Model A to the meetings (with short drives after the meeting, weather permitting). And, there will be something special at the end of the year for the members who bring their Model A to the most meetings. You won’t want to miss out on that special treat!
If you are ready for the new year, but your car isn’t, come to our January Model A Tune Up Day at Harris’s Garage on Saturday, January 26 at 9 a.m. This is a time to check safety items and perform light routine maintenance like oil level, tire pressure, brake adjustments, chassis greasing and other similar tasks. Best of all, it’s free for Sooner Model A Club members! There won’t be time to do major maintenance, but if we see a serious issue that needs further attention, you can always get with one of your fellow Club members who would be happy to help. Our ultimate goal is to keep these cars on the road.
My next goal is to see Club membership grow during 2019. Please let me know if you know of any potential new members. Keep an eye out for membership drive information coming soon.
Finally, I’d like to see an increase in participation in the 1000-Mile Patch program. This is a really big deal, folks. Driving more than 1000 miles in a car that’s 90 years old in modern times is quite an accomplishment — not just for the individual, but bragging rights for our Club as well. For the first time, I plan to participate this year. My starting odometer reading on January 1 is 89,579. I’ll need your help an encouragement to reach my goal!
Though we have all become friends over the years through participation in this Club, the one thing that ultimately unites us is our Model As, so let’s each set a goal to get our cars out more often. Let's show our city and state who we are on a more regular basis — even if it’s just an occasional trip to the grocery store.
This is YOUR Club, so I want to hear from YOU about how I’m doing. Let me know what programs you enjoy and what you’d like to see more of in the coming months.
